Received 28 JUN 19?? 173

I, LEUNG YU, at present unemployed but formerly employed on board the Chinese Customs Revenue Cruiser "Kwan Loy" do solemnly and sincerely declare and say as follows:

1. I left the "Kwan Loy" about a month and a half ago. I was engaged by the Captain of the "Kwan Loy", when he left I had to leave too as I was not engaged by the Chinese Government. I was employed on board the "Kwan Loy" two months. I am at present residing in the Tak On Cheong Seamen's Boarding House in Cochrane Street, 2nd floor.

2. The attached statement made by me to Mr. F. H. May, Captain Supt. of Police, on the 30th day of August, 1897, when I was confined in Victoria Gaol has this day been explained to me in the Chinese language by Chan Yau Lok, Interpreter to Messrs. Johnson Stokes & Master in the presence of Mr. Master and I find that such statement is true and correct in every respect.

And the said Leung Yu do make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true and by virtue of the provisions of "The Statutory Declarations Act 1835".

Declared by the Declarant Leung Yu at No.12, Queen's Road Central, Victoria, in the Colony of Hong-Kong, this 6th day of August, 1898, through the interpretation of the said Chan Yau Lok, the said Chan Yau Lok having been first declared that he had truly, distinctly, and audibly interpreted the contents of this document to the said declarant and that he would truly and faithfully interpret the declaration about to be administered unto him.
